Daybreak plot

Willi Kasder is a young, brash lieutenant of the Austrian Imperial Guard. In the mood for a fun evening, Willi visits a genteel house that is also a gambling palace. He meets the sweet and innocent Laura Taub and spends the night with her. Laura becomes the mistress of 'Herr Schnabel', an unpleasant but rich gentleman. Still in awe of Laura, Willi goes to gamble with Herr Schnabel with Laura as the bet. But things aren't looking good for Willi: He's losing to Herr Schnabell.
