David plot

"The true story of David Rothenberg whose disturbed father set him on fire."

Marie (Bernadette Peters) is divorced from Charles (John Glover), but the latter has the right to see their son David (Matthew Lawrence) on weekends. Charles takes David to a hotel room on one of these weekends, where he stuns him, douses him with petrol and sets him on fire. The boy is severely mutilated for the rest of his life, and Marie takes on the arduous task of taking care of him.
