Clara Immerwahr plot
Clara Immerwahr (1870-1915) was the first woman in Central Europe to study natural sciences. As a young girl she meets Fritz Haber who is studying chemistry. Together they want to do research for the benefit of humanity. After a long separation - they work at different research locations - they get married and Fritz is offered a job as a professor in Karlsruhe. Clara is also allowed to conduct research there. But the customs and rules of her time turn against her. She is only allowed to 'participate' unpaid, while Fritz develops more and more into a chauvinist. Then they invent 'ammonia synthesis from the air'. However, he remains silent about Clara's cooperation. Ammonia is the main raw material for fertilizers and explosives. Frits Haber's invention allows the German Reich to use it as poison gas in World War I, against Clara's will.
