"He Was But Half a Man... She Was a Whole Woman!"

Arthur Winner (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.), Julius Penrose (Jason Robards Jr.) and Noah Tuttle (Thomas Mitchell) are three deeply unhappy lawyers in a law firm who need legal aid of their own. Arthur's wife Clarissa (Barbara Bel Geddes) has nothing but contempt for Arthur because she sees their marriage as a business deal. Then there's Julius' wife Marjorie (Lana Turner) who became an alcoholic after Julius became impotent as a result of a car accident. Arthur and Majorie's frustrations cause them to slowly reunite.
