It's 1936 and hordes of people are forced by the Great Depression to exchange the dry plains of Texas for the alluring green pastures of California. So is the unemployed advertising painter Woody Guthrie. Determined to build a new life, Guthrie hitchhikes and sings his way across America. He cheers people up with his simple wisdom and he fights bravely for a better life for the victims of the depression.
