It is 1947. India is engaged in a battle with the colonizer Great Britain. The half-breed Victoria Jones returns to India after a seven-year stay in England. Victoria Jones is suffering from a loyalty crisis. Should she be loyal to British Colonel Rodney Savage, whose job it is to prevent Indian saboteurs from destroying 'Bhowani Junction', or respond to the feelings of Patrick Taylor, who is also a half-breed? In addition, Victoria is employed by the British army of occupation and her father works as a machinist at the 'Bhowani Junction', which does not make her life any easier. When Victoria kills her rapist in self-defense, she can go into hiding with the attractive Ghan Shyam aka Davay, an Indian insurgent. This puts Victoria even further into a loyalty crisis, but then an attack is made on Mahatma Gandhi.
