Bastille plot

Does man have history, and if he has one, what does it consist of? Historian Paul de Wit struggles with such questions, who has suppressed his own Jewish past. His family was murdered in Germany. When he examines the photos he has taken of his girlfriend Pauline in the Place de la Bastille in Paris, he is shocked to see that next to Pauline is someone who looks exactly like him: a doppelgänger who may well be his twin brother, who was thought to be dead. Finding this man becomes the mainspring of Paul's life.
