Backroad plot

"Evil takes a different route."

Abigail Hawkins sits alone, deep in thought at the church service of the one-year anniversary of her husband's death. Her son, Jasper Hawkins, is noticeably absent from the congregation and awakens in a shabby motel room on the edge of town. During the journey back to the city, he ponders his last memories of his dying father and the events that followed. A car stops along the road to take the hitchhiking Jasper. The driver is Joseph Iblis. The two soon begin an oral chess game where the one with the strongest will will win. The ride leads to a trail of blood when Jasper is aggressively forced to face his darkest demons. He will soon discover that evil takes a different route.
