A Modern Enoch Arden plot

Janet Fotheringay marries a young powerful millionaire, John Arnold, to save her father from financial ruin. Janet is actually in love with Dicky Bannister, but sacrifices everything for her father's honor. Arnold turns out to be a brute and Janet therefore maintains her friendship with Bannister, an emerging young playwright. One evening Mr. calls. Courtney Fotheringay and tries to interfere with Arnold's cruel treatment of Janet, for which he receives a blow at the hands of Arnold, falls to the ground, hits his head and is left dead. Arnold flees and makes his way west. Janet is convinced she is free again, but is that true?
