A Generala plot

The story of Maria Luísa Paiva Monteiro, a woman confronting a patriarchal society from the 1960s to the 1990s in Portugal. Inspired by actual events, the film follows Maria Luísa's struggle for freedom, rights and privileges that until then had been reserved exclusively for men. To gain the respect of those around her, Maria Luísa decides to take on a false identity as a man, believing it to be the only way to survive in a society that segregates and belittles women.
