The almost 80-year-old Mithat Bey has been collecting everything since 1950: newspapers, alarm clocks, tape recorders with recordings of Istanbul, coups d'état, various studies and careers, gifts and souvenirs: everything has been meticulously archived. This collecting frenzy once cost Mithat his marriage and now he is in danger of losing his house too - the building can no longer handle the sheer amount of collections, especially with the threat of earthquakes. Ali is a caretaker at Mithat's apartment complex and is one of the few allowed to enter Mithat's shrine. Gradually Mithat involves Ali in his life and in The Collection.
