Xiong Nian Zhi Pan plot
Documentary maker Wen Hai followed the lives of workers and labor activists between 2009 and 2015, especially in China's industrial south, the factory of the world. The experience of specialized agencies that defend workers' rights shows a practice of underpayment, poor working conditions and unfair redundancies. Activists are arrested and mistreated. Sometimes by criminals, sometimes just by the police. Lawyers are harassed and discouraged from taking cases. The bureaus themselves are regarded by the state as rioters, but they encourage workers not to strike and settle disputes through the law.
