Glawogger is fascinated by the mechanisms that come into play during large-scale physical labor and the fact that this is rarely captured on the silver screen. Hard work is shown in film only to confirm questionable social and economic systems. It seems that hard labor prefers to be hidden. To confront us again with the physical reality of work, he filmed coal mines, slaughterhouses and factory sheds all over the world from different perspectives, where human workers perform the repetitive actions that get no place in the average film.
