It should become an 'epic about the artist as a worker'. That is undoubtedly WORK. But above all, it is a cheerful mess, in which man bravely goes in search of the essence of the story. A quest that takes us to the cellars of the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, among countless cats. WORK is anything but an unambiguous, straightforward argument. It is a film like a pinball machine: Van Lieshout's mind and camera shoot in all directions and switch effortlessly from general to private, from profound to banal, from Helmond to St. Petersburg.
