We Went to War plot
In 1970, in the middle of the Vietnam debacle, the young British director Michael Grigsby interviewed three equally young American soldiers about their war experiences and the return to normal life. It was the first time that the consequences and trauma of Vietnam veterans had been so painfully exposed. More than forty years later, Grigsby visited the three again in Texas. It turns out they never got their lives back together. Dennis has continued to try to come to terms with the past, but has never been able to build a lasting relationship. David entered therapy after 38 years. And for Lamar, returning to normalcy was the hardest battle of his life. In a poignant, contemplative style, the documentary connects the present with the past and establishes a link with the new generation of war veterans.
