War plot

The film is set in rural Warren County, Pennsylvania. An area in which (as in almost all of America's countryside) traditional family-run farming has virtually died out. And nothing has replaced this. There is only decay and a single attempt against better judgement to keep anything going. The film does not have a traditional story - it is mainly about atmosphere - but it does have a number of intriguing main characters. For example, there is the pastor Jack Masters who goes from farm to farm to talk about the world after the end of the world. Farmer (fourth generation) Jacob Jenkins still inspects the fence around his land every spring and Hanky the Junkman still runs a scarce oil pump on Jenkins' land.
