W.H. Gispen - Ontwerper - Ondernemer plot
Willem Hendrik Gispen (1890-1981) belongs to the first generation of industrial designers. The name Gispen determines our image of the interior of the Nieuwe Bouwen until today and is synonymous with modernity in the Netherlands. As a designer, Gispen is extremely successful. His modern and functional lamps and furniture are popular in the pre-war Netherlands. The famous tubular steel furniture becomes classics. Everyone will recognize the rear legless chair in particular, but not many will know that the design originally came from Mart Stam (designed for his pregnant wife) and thus gives rise to many processes that continue to this day. The story about Gispen is told by his second wife Riek van de Griend (99 years old), daughter Antoinette and experts such as art historian André Koch and antique dealer Ad van de Bruinhorst.
