Vrekken plot
“Vkken” portrays three rebellious rural people whose extremely austere way of life contrasts sharply with our consumer society, in which everything revolves around more and more. Gerben in his fifties from Veendam and the Aarts brothers from de Peel are satisfied with less or nothing. The disabled driver Gerben proudly lives on a daily plate of cereals, cost: 10 cents per meal. The 41-year-old ex-student Embert Aarts lives in a converted chicken coop on the land of his brother Martien. Martien once took over their father's farm, but gave up because the hard work didn't help. Now he is lying on the couch, lounging or reading a newspaper and trying to get by on as little as possible. The three men in the film are mostly misers to themselves. They deliberately turn away from society, but do not pretend to be do-gooders.
