Cinematic essay on the work of 'reconstruction filmmaker' Herman van der Horst (1911-1976). Although Van der Horst was regarded both nationally and internationally as one of the best documentary makers the Netherlands has known, his work fell into oblivion in the 1960s, after the emergence of a new generation of filmmakers. The film shows fragments from all twenty films by Van der Horst. The fragments are explained by speaking and/or 'silent' witnesses.
