Vera plot
Two things rule the life of the Jewish Vera: horses and the Second World War. When she was sixteen, she ended up in Italy, on the run from the Nazis in the former Yugoslavia. She was the only one of the Jewish family to survive the war. She now runs a horse breeding farm on her own. Controlled and sober, Vera tells her story. While we see how the spirited female with slightly hunched back pushes a large wheelbarrow, we hear how she was crazy about horses as a young girl. That the smell of horse shit made her overjoyed. We witness a complicated birth of a foal when we hear how the persecution of the Jews in Yugoslavia begins. How Vera flees to Italy. And discovers that there is such a thing as death camps. The images that support her story outline the idyllic, safe world into which she has withdrawn.
