Ushiku plot

The Ushiku Immigration Center near Tokyo mainly houses refugees, who apply for asylum in Japan. Filmmaker Thomas Ash interviewed the occupants using a hidden camera, despite the government's ban on media in the country's immigration centers. The inmates speak out about their treatment and Japan's uncompromising refugee policy just before COVID-19 was to break out.
