Über das Meer plot

Docudrama about Erhard Schelter and his escape from the former GDR. From childhood Schelter dreamed of the sea. After 14 failed attempts to be recruited by the East German shipping company Rostock, the then 34-year-old GDR citizen decides to leave his home and flee to the West. Together with his friend Volker Hameister, he plans to flee across the Baltic Sea. In the night of September 21 to 22, 1974, the escape attempt begins.
