Tops & Bottoms plot

The young Mercedes has signed a contract stipulating that she will be the slave of a sadomasochistic relationship for six months. Based on the story of Mercedes, documentary maker Cristine Richey investigates the meaning of sadomasochism through the ages. From the Middle Ages to Marquis de Sade; from the repressive Victorian era, when parents provided their adolescent children with chastity belts, to the novelist Leopold von Sacher Masoch, who took pleasure in getting a good beating.
