Kathleen Hanna, the lead singer of the punk band Bikini Kill and the dance-punk trio Le Tigre, has received national attention for her role as spokeswoman for the riot grrrl movement. This made her one of the most famous feminist icons. The critics wanted her to shut up, her supporters hoped she never would. So when she retired in 2005, many wondered why.
