The Kaiser of Atlantis plot

In 1943, in the Nazi concentration camp Theresienstadt, the Jewish composer Viktor Ullmann wrote Der Kaiser von Atlantis, a chamber opera that warns of the danger of dictators dragging us into their war plans. Remarkably, the opera was rehearsed in the camp, but its performance was eventually banned by the Nazis. Ullmann was murdered in Auschwitz. Thanks to a miraculous series of events, the original score was saved from destruction and it was not until 1975 that the opera had its premiere in Amsterdam. This documentary tells the story of Ullmann and his opera and of a new production of the work in Madrid, more than seventy years later.
