The Jazz Ambassadors plot
"The untold story of America's coolest weapon in the Cold War"
In 1956, the US deploys a new and unexpected weapon against the Soviet Union: jazz music. Famous jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Benny Goodman are housed in the so-called 'Jazz Ambassadors' project. They travel the world to promote American culture and music, especially in potentially communist countries. With the Jazz Ambassadors, the US also wants to counter external criticism of the persistent racial segregation in the country.
