The Helper plot

Many wealthy families in Hong Kong have a “helper”, a woman who does the housework and takes care of the children. Many of these women come from neighboring countries such as Korea, Indonesia or the Philippines. They have fled the poverty of their motherland, left their family and are trying to build a new life in Hong Kong. This documentary describes through interviews the lives of this often undervalued group, who are invaluable to society in Hong Kong. The choir The Unsung Heroes, consisting of Filipino helpers, prepares for a performance, in which they put themselves and other helpers in the spotlight.
