The Guantanamo Trap plot
The film tells the story of four people; some of them have never met, but their experiences with Guantánamo changed their lives profoundly. One of the main characters is the German-Turkish Murat Kurnaz, author of the book 'Five Years of My Life. An Innocent Man at Guantanamo'. Kurnaz was released from the detention camp after five years, without ever hearing any charges against him. Advocate and whistleblower Matthew Diaz paid a heavy price for releasing a top-secret list of Guantánamo detainees, and military lawyer Diane Beaver was reviled for publishing the extreme interrogation techniques employed there. Spanish prosecutor Gonzalo Boye is trying to achieve the impossible: to bring those responsible at Guantánamo to justice, even if it concerns high-ranking American authorities.
