Rudolf Höss was responsible for building the killing machine in Auschwitz concentration camp and lived there with his wife and children during the war years. In this documentary, Volker speaks with daughter Brigitte and son Hans-Jürgen to find out their perspective on the events in Auschwitz. In The Zone Of Interest we see how those children were shielded as much as possible from what was happening and Brigitte and Hans-Jürgen remember their childhood as idyllic. 98-year-old Anita Laser-Wallfisch survived Auschwitz because she could play the cello. A nice addition for those who want to know more through The Zone Of Interest about how the systematic extermination of mainly Jews could take place and usefully supplemented with fragments from the autobiography that Rudolf Höss wrote while awaiting his trial.
