At the age of six, Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha received the first phone call of his life, informing him of his father's sudden death and his birthright to now become Tsar of Bulgaria. Just three years later, the nine-year-old king was overthrown by the communists and he and his family became exiles. It took fifty years before the communist regime fell and he was allowed to return. Crowds cried out for their king, even though he no longer had his title. Simeon founded a new political party and won by a large majority; he became Prime Minister of Bulgaria in 2001. But the difficult conditions in the country meant a new kind of 'exile' was lurking...
