The Balanda and the Bark Canoes plot

At the request of his good friend David Gulpilil (who played the lead role in De Heers 'The Tracker', among others), director Rolf de Heer comes to the Arafura swamp in Arnhem Land, Australia to film an old aboriginal myth (the Cannes award-winning feature film 'Ten Canoes'). In this intriguing 'making of', De Heer tells all about 'the most difficult film he has ever made'. Only with his angelic patience and unbridled respect for the actors can De Heer prevent this from becoming Australia's own 'Hearts of Darkness'.
