The 50 plot

In a dangerously overcrowded California state prison, fifty life inmates seize a groundbreaking opportunity to become one of the country's first substance abuse counselors. The film follows the creation of the program and also shows the personal histories of three members, as well as their stories of the deep-seated traumas they have endured and caused. For ten years, since the program's inception, the mentors have been applying their experiences to emerge as society's most skilled healers.
