Stolz & Eigensinn plot
After the fall of the Wall, East Germany experienced a second major wave of layoffs. Women who had worked in the large industrial companies of the GDR speak with remarkable openness about their independence at that time and their pride in their professional achievements. They confidently describe their amazement that men would suddenly take over their positions and reflect on utopias long since consigned to the past. These stories are accompanied by archive footage of their daily work in now-defunct industrial facilities and lignite mines. Interviews from the 1990s, recorded on U-matic tapes by the Leipzig pirate radio station KANAL X, preserve these unique insights.
