Spaak plot

Paul-Henri Spaak was no ordinary politician. As the first President of the UN General Assembly and Secretary-General of NATO, this Brussels native left his mark on the world as we know it today. After the devastation of the Second World War, Spaak threw himself into building a new Europe. He was present at the founding of virtually every major international organization of his time. The documentary paints a portrait of a visionary who looked far ahead.

I’m not exactly jumping for joy at the prospect of documentaries about politicians, but Spaak is a name in a league of his own. Even though I actually knew too little about him. The Churchill of Belgium, in his own way, that is. It is not a promotional documentary or an election stunt; his career (and life) is long behind us. It is no secret which political party he belonged to, but that is of less importance in this documentary. For Spaak was not a typical party politician.

We are presented with a broad picture of the man and his impressive track record at home and abroad. A very interesting and fascinating overview of one of the most important Belgian politicians.
