Songs of Redemption plot
Hope is alive – it seems like a cliché, but for the residents of the Tower Street Adult Correctional Facility, a penitentiary in the Jamaican capital, Kingston, it is a reality that keeps them going. This old prison, once the place where African slaves were held, was a dark place where a decent existence was hardly possible. Most inmates, many of whom were convicted of serious crimes, tended to come out worse than they came in. Under the inspiring leadership of prison director Leroy Fairweather, a new wind has started blowing. With the support of the European Union, a rehabilitation program has been started in which education, culture and music are central. Especially the music is an outlet; to the inspired sounds of various Jamaican reggae heroes, the prisoners express their often sad life stories, their frustrations, but also their expectations for the future. .
