Smog Town plot

Langfang, about 40 kilometers from Beijing, is one of the cities with the heaviest air pollution in China. But at the local environmental protection institute, department director Li and his right-hand man Hu are working hard to change that. The pressure from the Beijing leadership is great and far-reaching measures are needed to combat the fog filled with smoke and exhaust gases, which regularly hangs in the streets of the city.

In the country responsible for more harmful emissions than all other countries combined, Langfang is the leader in air pollution. Xi Jinping has set ambitious goals to improve air quality and is putting great pressure on Langfang's administrators to improve the situation. This documentary follows a number of them during meetings about possible solutions and unannounced visits to workshops that may be responsible for the air pollution. One proposal: shut down all traffic in the city! An interesting look behind the scenes of local administrators in China, but in a country with such a closed culture you never get full openness and questions about authenticity are impossible to remove.
