Si-Gueriki, la Reine-Mère plot
Director Idrissou Mora Kpai is a member of the Wassangaris tribe. After an absence of ten years, due to the death of his father, he returns to his roots in northern Benin. The Wassangari were once fierce warriors, whose lives were dictated by rigid traditions. They don't fight anymore, but they have kept the strict patriarchy. Mora Kpai sees his sisters and nieces suffering under the oppression of the male tribesmen. To his surprise, his mother is freed. When he was a child, she was a stranger to him, one of his father's many wives, now she has been given the title Si-Gueriki. She is the Queen Mother, the female equivalent of a king.
