Shock Head Soul plot
The film brings together interviews, fictional reconstructions and animation to portray Daniel Paul Schreber's story. Schreber was a successful German lawyer who received messages from God in 1893 through a "typewriter" spanning the cosmos. He spent the next nine years in an institution, ravaged by delusions of cosmic control and suffering from the idea that he was slowly changing sex. Schreber thought that only his submission to God's plan to turn him into a woman would save the world. During his nine-year incarceration, he wrote the 'Denkwürdigkeiten eines Nervenkranken' which earned him fame as an outsider in the art world.
