In 1989, the Romanian people had had enough of Ceausescu's rule, poverty and terror. At a good moment, the time was right for action: a revolution. But history turns out not to be that simple, teaches the investigative documentary “Checkmate”, an accurate and revealing reconstruction of the events leading up to Ceausescu's downfall and execution. In reality, the Romanian revolution was a tightly orchestrated, externally controlled operation. Countries such as Hungary, Germany and, above all, America had a big finger in the pie, it turns out.
