Sandstorm plot
Women's wrestling was not accepted by the Korean Ssireum Association until 1999 and did not begin to gain attention until a decade later when Lim Soojeong won the championship. Starting in 2017, “Sandstorm” follows the wrestlers of the Kolping Women's Ssireum Team for five years, as a team and as individuals: their matches, joy and moments of glory, but also their breakdowns, doubts and injuries. The film also reveals the persistent gender roles in Korean society regarding the body, aging and family responsibilities. The players' determination, passion, friendship and mutual support, which complement and enrich each other's stories, unfold sensitively over the course of these five years.
