Raiders plot
With the rise of Russian capitalism after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, oligarchs, businessmen with political power, were able to make money like water. They acquired state property for next to nothing, built villas and flew around in private jets. Competitors were soon eager to knock them off the throne – by any means available. Now these so-called raiders are in power: an organized, criminally operating group of politicians, former KGB officers, judges, lawyers and the thugs they have enlisted. They expropriate valuable properties and thriving businesses, aided by the "right" connections and using bribery, threats and worse.
