"Documentary film about a country that doesn't exist"
A journey in strange territory through Transnistria, alias the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, as its official name is, a de facto state recognized by only a few countries. In addition to the curiosity aroused by this Soviet enclave, where it is not easy to film, the political aspect is not lacking in this documentary about a country where the president, called Smirnov, resembles a burlesque dictator of a provincial governor. Moreover, the capital Tiraspol is the main city center where different language groups live together, but where Russian dominates. One of the political issues is the position vis-à-vis the Russian neighbour, and whether there really is a choice here. And what do the neighbors of the Moldavians, Romanians and Ukrainians, think of the republic?
