Msaytbeh, the Elevated Place plot

After being away for twenty years, Rawane Nassif returns home to Msaytbeh, Beirut. Msaytbeh - the name is derived from the word Mastaba: the exalted place - was once the location of a loving and diverse residential area with secular, progressive residents. Upon her return, Rawane realizes that the life and community she left behind have radically changed. In this documentary, Rawane invites the viewer to her parents' house, which has been destroyed by years of war. Filming from the balcony on the eighteenth floor, Rawane juxtaposes her childhood memories with what remains.
