'The global village' and 'The medium is the message' are among the most quoted sayings of our time. Throughout his life, Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980) encouraged his fellow man to question the obvious. After an initial enthusiastic response to his visionary theories, McLuhan faced considerable headwinds. Few understood the magnitude of his ideas at the time, and it is only now that the digital age has finally arrived that the overwhelming relevance of his work becomes apparent. This documentary brings McLuhan back to mind. Laurie Anderson's voice accompanies a stream of archival footage and testimonials from both family members and current media guru Neil Postman.
