Max Havelaar Leeft! plot
Max Havelaar was written as an indictment against the corrupt government system in the Dutch East Indies. The novel by Multatuli (the pseudonym of Eduard Douwes Dekker) was published as early as 1860, but the themes from the book are still current. In 'Max Havelaar lives!' Peter Faber tells about his experiences in the film 'Max Havelaar' (1976). Together with endowed professor of Literary Criticism and columnist Elsbeth Etty, the biographer of Multatuli Dik van der Meulen and the editor of the Complete Works, Hans van den Bergh, the makers also go deeper into the content of the book.
