Main Reef Road plot

A lot has changed in South Africa. Also along the Main Reef Road, a road that connects several villages along the main gold mines of the area. In the middle is Johannesburg, the home of director Nic Hofmeyr. From there he pulls in his green Volkswagen 'beetle' along the former main road. It is said that the Main Reef Road was once the busiest road in Africa. Now the residents who can afford it have moved to the newly built suburbs north of Johannesburg. Many of the mines have been abandoned or closed after more than a century of gold digging.
