Liever Kroes?! plot

At the age of six, Cape Verdean-Dutch Nelly wanted nothing more than long, blond hair. She didn't recognize herself in her dolls, Barbies, or her favorite stars on television. Her mother started straightening Nelly's hair when she was ten. Now, 24 years later, Nelly investigates where her dislike for her frizzy hair comes from. How can she learn to accept her appearance? How can she break through her internalized racism?
