Les Éternels plot
People who witnessed particularly horrific violence – just think of a genocide – for whom even death no longer instills fear, sometimes experience a so-called eternal melancholy. They lead a life disrupted by time, an existence that time has no control over, and wait for the day when they will be released from their misery. These are survivors of the conflict in Upper Karabakh, which has shaped Armenian and Azerbaijani life for almost twenty years. In his film, the director shows those so-called 'éternels' or 'eternals', lets them speak, and follows in their footsteps, wandering in the Caucasus after the fall of the Soviet Union.
