Le Verrou plot

Tunisia today. Three women, three stories. Houda, Mabrouka and Faouzia have all undergone the 'tasfih', a ritual that aims to protect young girls from any desired or unwanted penetration before marriage. The incantation 'closes' the girls and makes the young women 'open' again for their wedding night. Le Verrou is about the female body, its representation in public and private spaces, the place of women within the family and Tunisian society. A reflection on a legacy torn between tradition and the need for emancipation.
