Le Jour du Mineur plot
Documentary about the coal mines in Ukraine. At the risk of their own lives, hundreds of men daily enter the Bouzhanska mine, where they extract coal using rusty Soviet-era equipment. It is hard, unhealthy and dangerous work, which is attractive to many young men thanks to the relatively high pay – two to four times as much as can be earned in the city. If a fire were to break out, a couple of fist-sized water bags that were temporarily suspended from the low ceiling of the mine tunnel burst and the fire is extinguished. Once a year the miners are honored on Miner's Day, otherwise they are ignored, bullied or intimidated by their bosses.
